Anyone familiar with Medallion Arts Company of New York?

I just received an order from APMEX. I ordered 65 ounces from their generic silver rounds and bars category. This was the first time that I had ever done this. Most of my previous silver purchases had been from their mixed rounds category. What I received today was a ziplock bag that was marked 65.24 ounces. The bag contained silver medallions in different sizes that were not marked with their weight. Each medallion is marked .999 fine silver and Medallion Arts Company of New York or MACO around the rim of the medallion. They have a matte finish that looks a lot like pewter and are burnished. Very artsy looking stuff. Most are presidential medallions and several of them are of Sacagawea. Any opinions on these?

They are posted around the edge with the purity but not the weight. I just found one of the smaller presidential medallions that I have on an Ebay auction.

Here is the link. http://cgi.ebay.com/Medallic-Art-Co-...QQcmdZViewItem

They are very nice pieces. Not easy to find info on that company but I think there is an obscure catalog that lists some of their stuff. I think they are really nice and a lot of variety. Sometimes you have to look for them in exonumo (?)categories. I'm still looking for a catalog. Joejeweler might be able to offer more info on how to find more info on them. Or one of our other old dealers. I am not concerned that the weight is not specified (although) it is a small pain. It does list fineness and that is sufficient. Selling in the future - anyone who has been in the hobby for some time will recognize them - Joe newcomer maybe not so much. I find them, I would buy them.

Good silver, however you will find it difficult to get spot for them.

Oddball stuff like this is bought and sold at a discount to spot all the time.

Stick with even ounce known products and you will have "no problemo"
when it comes time to sell.

If you are in doubt, call a local dealer and tell him you have 1 ounce .999 silver rounds for sale; then after he quotes price tell him you have oddball weighted .999 Medallic art medallions for sale.

You will then learn the true desirability of your item.

That was the only time I ordered from the generic category at APMEX. That was the only silver they were selling at that time. The only way I'll ever order generic again is if the same situation arises again (big dip, nothing else available to buy.) I was hoping I was gonna receive generic bars but instead I got a big ziplock bag full of those medallions. They will be among the first of my stash to go back to APMEX when the time is right to trade silver for gold. They are kind of purdy though.
